Dom Fortino is the owner and operator of Dutch Kills Fitness, the premier facility for general preparedness fitness in Queens, New York. Dom began his fitness career 20 years ago, upon taking his first job in his hometown gym. There, in a time dominated by treadmills and weight machines, Dom’s mentor introduced him to what were then the “old school” fitness methodologies, emphasizing compound functional movements and utilizing odd objects along with more traditional fitness equipment. Dom embraced these methodologies and has been training others in them ever since.
In 2010, Dom discovered CrossFit. Excited by CrossFit’s message, which shined the spotlight back on functional movement, Dom opened his own box in Queens, New York in 2012. Now known as CrossFit Dutch Kills, the box serves one of the lost diverse and fastest growing communities in New York City.
Searching for a way to incorporate odd objects into his offerings, in 2013, Dom founded City Strongman and continued to solidify his craft teaching seminars under the guidance of CrossFit Strongman Head SME Rob Orlando. Like CrossFit, the program features high-intensity and functional workouts, but adds an emphasis on odd objects similar to those encountered in everyday life. The programming is suitable for training competitive strongman athletes (and has produced national and world competitive athletes), but also is a great general preparedness regimen for anyone who regularly lifts everyday packages or kids and pets.
In addition to his programming expertise, Dom has cultivated extensive knowledge in the nutritional sciences. He regularly counsels clients on improving their diets, both to enhance athletic performance and optimize overall health and fitness.
